The Design and Buildout of Your Whole Lab Startup
Contemplating starting a whole lab can be overwhelming. We’ll identify your laboratory needs and develop a custom solution to meet those needs. We follow a step-by-step process that has helped countless customers go live with a state-of-the art lab, without state-of-the-art pricing.
“The Rankin team assisted us through our whole lab set-up. Everyone did a fantastic job from sales/ordering and technical support through delivery and installation. A few repairs were needed post-install, and their response was very rapid and thorough. I highly recommend their services for your histology laboratory needs. Thanks for helping make our laboratory build out go so smoothly.“

Rankin carries all of the top brands, allowing you to work with one vendor for all of your equipment and supply needs:
5-Step Process
1. Initial Quote
You will work with a dedicated account representative to understand your needs and timeline, as well as to answer any initial questions you have about the lab setup process. Rankin is very selective in the brands of equipment that we offer for your lab setup, in that they must have a proven track record of reliability and durability in the field, and in testing at our technical shop. After almost 30 years, we’ve sorted out the non-ideal product options. Service contracts are also available through Rankin, and can be included in the upfront purchase.
2. Design
Our applications and lab consultant has over 40 years of histology lab experience. You will receive a 2D and 3D layout for your lab, and there are typically several revisions until we get it just right. The layout takes into account current needs, as well as plans for future growth potential. This service is free of charge and is a perk of working with Rankin for your lab setup. This service is what helps our customers open faster and more smoothly. These layouts are an effective asset for your contractors when building out the physical laboratory space.
3. Place Order
Once the quote and layout are dialed in to fit your needs, you can place your order. Many clients elect to finance the purchase to keep cash in their pocket. Once your order is placed, our operations and service team will begin working to fulfill your order which typically consists of a mix of new and refurbished items.
4. Pre-Installation Prep
Our service team will provide you with a pre-installation checklist document for each instrument that you purchased. The dimensions, weight, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC requirements are spelled out clearly so you can hand the documents to your contractors. If your contractors have any questions, they can call us directly to speak with our service team.
5. Delivery, Installation, & Operator Training
Setting up a lab is a massive project from a logistical standpoint. Lucky for you, we’ve done this before. Our service representatives are on your team, and will work with you to arrange for the proper timing of delivery. We often hold equipment until our customer’s facility is ready. Products will be delivered, then biomedical technicians will be scheduled to come set up, install, and provide basic operator training on the instruments. Applications support is not a standard service Rankin offers but can be arranged directly with a consultant per our recommendation.
