General Data Flotation Work Station FWS-S

The Flotation Work Station FWS-S is a heated water bath used to soften and flatten tissue specimens before attaching them to microscope slides for further histological specimen processing.

This particular device is a “smart” water bath that makes slide preparation easier, safer and more efficient through it’s microprocessor-controlled temperature regulation. Water temperature is precisely regulated between ambient to 65 C. Precise control prevents tissue imperfections such as cracking and layer separation that can result from temperature fluctuation. All heated areas on the heat-resistant plastic housing (dish, HISTO/Orientor, and a slide drying area) can be individually temperature-controlled according to user preference.

The smaller footprint of the FWS-S, compared to it’s big brother the FWS-L, makes it especially ideal in labs with limited counter space.

The General Data Flotation Work Station FWS-S has a bright, energy efficient LED light array that provides significantly more visibility than conventional water baths. The light array is strategically positioned on the side of the device (not facing the technician) so there is maximum light on the ribbons, yet minimal glare toward the technician’s eyes. The side position of the LED light array along with the high-contrast black background works well to provide the best possible visibility.

The low profile design of the device provides user-comfort by reducing fatigue, and also positively addresses repetitive motion syndrome. The 8″l x 8″w x 2 1/4″d square glass dish enables easy ribbon floating and enhanced section pickup. The General Data Flotation Work Station FWS-S comes with a built-in 2″ x 2″ HISTO/Orientator pad, where section wrinkles are eliminated, and a convenient 2” x 6” heated slide drying area.

Cleaning the flotation bath is very easy, as the glass dish is simply removed from the device. The chemical-resistant plastic housing is easily accessible and is built to stand up to frequent cleaning.

Optional Accessories:

Front slide drying rack – FDR-FL
